My company (IBM) has an internal magazine (The IBMer) that comes every six months. I got this article published in the last edition about my project “A Postcard for World Peace”. Here the initial English version of the article... Did you send your postcard already?

My Dream – Mein Traum

We all have dreams. Some utopic, some realistic ones.

And so it happens that once, a night of January 2007, few weeks before leaving Estonia after almost 4 years living there and moving to Austria, I dreamed about a way to contribute to a major utopic dream that many have: World Peace.

That night in my flat in Tallinn I dreamed about the project. I remembering waking up in the middle of the night and thinking that it was a cool idea, so I went back to sleep and kept dreaming about the same for the rest of the night. So I woke up in the morning and decided to put that dream into action and the first couple of hours at work that day were dedicated to it. And that’s how I started my project: A Postcard for World Peace.

A Postcard for World Peace is a collection of postcards from all over the World; in which people from all around the Globe share their thoughts and wishes to peace and fulfilment to the human kind.

So far there are more than 1000 postcard from over 160 countries and territories, from Greenland to Antarctica, from Fiji to Ghana and Guatemala. People from all the continents expressing their wishes for peace.

And that’s the beauty of the project: to show that no matter how different we are, which language we speak, which religion we profess, we all have an ultimate dream of having a World in which we can leave in Peace and Unity.

I know that with this project most probably World peace wont be achieved, but at least, I want to believe that it makes a difference for that person who took the time and the effort to get a postcard, think about what peace means for him/herself, go to the post office, get a stamp and send the card. And for those who read the messages online and feel inspired by it. At the end of the day, peace is more than the absence of war, but also that inner state of mind, in which we are at easy with ourselves.

All the postcards are displayed online in the project site: http://postcardworldpeace.blogspot.com and the idea is soon to have exhibitions made and get a book published with the nicest postcards and messages. Aprendiendo a vivir en los países Bálticos

Era el primer semestre del año 2002, me encontraba terminando mis estudios universitarios y con deseos de vivir por mi mismo esa filosofía por la que había trabajado por 5 años en AIESEC Uninorte.

Tratando de encontrar mi camino, fui seleccionado para trabajar en la Junta Directiva de un capítulo de AIESEC en una pequeña ciudad de Lituania: Siauliai. Así fue que a la semana de presentar mi proyecto de grado, un 27 de Julio me fui con una maleta llena de expectativas a este país tan desconocido para nosotros en Colombia. ¿Por qué Lituania? Simplemente porque sonaba lejos, sonaba diferente, y quería irme a un país diferente, que la gente no conociera, y Lituania cumplía estos requisitos totalmente.

Lo que encontré fue una ciudad pequeña, de solo 150 mil habitantes, pero que me recibió con los brazos abiertos y me hizo sentir especial, único. Durante muchos meses fui la persona de piel más oscura en la ciudad. Todo el mundo sentía curiosidad por quien era este colombiano y por mi país. Me encontré con un país con gente amable y una naturaleza impresionante; un país que lucha por el desarrollo, mientras que sigue con las sombras de la antigua Unión Soviética. Fue un año de arduo trabajo, con muchos choques culturales, pero a la vez de satisfacciones inmensas.

Al terminar mi año me mudé a Tallin, la capital de Estonia, a trabajar en la Junta Directiva de AIESEC en este país. Otro año de mucho esfuerzo y dedicación, pero igualmente otro año de alegrías y auto descubrimiento. Un año en el que trabajé en un equipo conformado por 5 estonios, un joven de Sri Lanka y yo. Finalmente terminé viviendo en Estonia por casi 4 años, trabajando y estudiando una maestría, gracias a una beca que me ofreció una universidad local por haber trabajado en la Junta Directiva de la Asociación en este país.

La vida en los países Bálticos fue dura, con inviernos con temperaturas que bajaban a los -35°C, con nieve desde finales de Octubre hasta Abril y a veces Mayo. Con días en los que sale el sol después de 8 de la mañana, pero antes de 5 de la tarde ya es de noche nuevamente. Donde la gente es muy fría y distante en un principio, donde cuesta mucho trabajo y toma tiempo hacer verdaderos amigos y ganarse la confianza de la gente. Sin embargo, una vez son tus amigos, lo son para toda la vida. Hoy vivo en Austria; me fui de Estonia hace ya casi 5 años, y sin embargo entre mis mejores amistades cuento a varios Lituanos y Estonios.

Siauliai y Tallin siguen siendo un segundo hogar para mi, ciudades a las cuales siempre querré volver, así como siempre quiero volver a mi Barranquilla y mi Colombia.

I saw the death dress like a woman and driving a black car.

Last night I had a near-to-death experience. I saw the face of Death. It was dressed like a woman, and it was driving a black car. A small one, didn’t notice which type it was.

So I was just walking back home, was just one block away when I tried to cross the street at the corner. When I was almost at the other side a car came out of nowhere and almost hit me. Literally, no exaggeration intended. It was so fast I didn’t have time to react. Thanks God this woman did notice me and was able to break in the last second, stopping just couple of centimetres in front of me.

My reaction was trying to stop the car with my hands (Superman complex?), or maybe I was just trying to catch her attention. Somehow it worked (the stopping the car with my hands part, of course), but I kind of hurt my right thumb, the nice cakes I have bought for dessert got a bit smashed, and later during the night my arm was hurting a bit as well, but it was all fine, I'm alive and nothing hurts today.

You know, I have always believed that God has some angels protecting me, and they proved once more they know very well how to do their work. I survived and I am all fine today. But I saw it so close…

When the car stopped, the driver got out and started apologizing. I was quite upset as you can imagine, but once I saw her face, almost crying for what she did (and could have done), I couldn’t be angry anymore and was just assuring her I was Ok and that she should be more careful when driving. I hope she did learn that she should not speed up in small streets and open her eyes when turning right or left in a corner.

The rest of the evening I was kind of in shock, my nerves a bit altered. But after a delicious dinner (sponsored by Tom) and hot herbs tea (sponsored by Jaan), I slowly fell asleep in front of the TV and could calm down.

Of course the events from last night (as usually all the near-death experiences do) have made me think a lot about life. About my life. It is not a 30’s crisis or anything like that, is just that seeing that I could be right now at the hospital badly injured, or even dead, made me realise it is time to take back control of things. Take back control of my life.

I think I have done a lot in my life so far, achieved things not many people from my background have achieved, travelled a lot (37 countries and counting!) and lived many valuable experiences. But still I have fallen asleep on the Vienna's blue sky clouds.

It is time to put myself out my very cosy comfort zone and take control of my life again, challenge myself once more, do the things I want to do, go to the places I want to visit, achieve the goals I have set for myself. (Zusammen, natürlich!).

One of them is retaking this blog I have forgotten so long time ago.

So, today I tell to myself: Myself, don’t wait for the next car to wake you up. The time is now.

I just need to remind myself constantly of this, so I won’t stay behind again. And if I’m staying behind without me noticing it, please Do remind me of this post today.

Teaspoon & King

Every Monday i get a "Monday Learning" mailing from Ankur Malik (RealAcad founder). Today it included this nice story. I have heard it before, but still now im thinking about which are my 3 precious drops of oil.

Bueno, ya ha pasado bastante tiempo desde mi último comunicado contando mis aventuras en Viena. Asé que les escribo un email corto contándoles brevemente que ha sido de mí en estos últimos meses.

Bueno, en realidad no he estado todo el tiempo en Viena, tuve la oportunidad de ir dos veces a Eslovenia, una vez de negocios y la otra a visitar a mi prima Giova. Eslovenia me encantó. Es un país pequeñito pero con mucha diversidad. Montañas impresionantes, el mar, lagos.

También tuve una visita fugaz a Bratislava, la capital de Eslovaquia. Solo fueron unas horas en asuntos de negocios. Bien bonita la ciudad, pero no vi mucho tampoco :-)

Y hace 10 días viajé a Alemania, a las ciudades de Nurnberg, Wurzburg y Lindau, en el Bodensee. Definitivamente este país me encanta!

Viena por su parte ha cambiado un poco. El verano ya esta en pleno acá, las temperaturas pasan los 30°C, hay un sol fuerte y picante, incluso hay veces que se siente como en Barranquilla.

El trabajo en IBM va progresando cada vez más. Cada día hay nuevos retos que afrontar. Lo estoy disfrutando, así que ya veremos que pasa dentro de unos meses. Trabajar con tanta gente diferente, de tantas nacionalidades y en tantas locaciones distintas, es verdaderamente un reto, divertidísimo, así que estoy feliz con lo que hago.

Lo otro, estoy tomando clases de Alemán… uff me da duro! Que idioma tan complicado, pero me gusta, así que tengo que seguir trabajando más en él para aprenderlo. Ya les contaré de mis progresos en el idioma.

Otro asunto divertido en estos meses fue que cante en 3 conciertos con un grupo de latinos que vive acá en Viena. Oficialmente no somos un grupo, simplemente amigos que se unieron para tocar en estos conciertos, mas como un workshop :-) Tocamos música en Español más que todo, rumba, samba, bossa, etc., entre otras canciones en Inglés, Portugués y Guaraní. Los próximos fines de semana serán de visitas: este fin de semana viene Anett de Hungría, el de más arriba Markus de Alemania y posiblemente el de más arriba viene Riho de Estonia.

Luego me quedan un par de semanas libres antes de viajar a Colombia!!!! Si, me voy unas semanas de vacaciones a casa a visitar a mi gente. Durante las vacaciones pasaré unos días en Madrid y en Caracas (Venezuela).

Nada es más constante que el cambio

El tiempo pasa mas rápido de lo que lo pensamos. Siento que fue ayer cuando con mucha nostalgia le dije adiós a mis amigos y a mi vida en Estonia para iniciar una nueva aventura en Viena.

Hoy estoy aquí, un mes y un día después, sentado en mi oficina, extrañando Tallin y extrañando mi vida allá. Pero bueno, la idea de este email es contarles mis primeras impresiones de Viena.

La ciudad

Como saben Viena es la capital de Austria, situada a orillas del rió Danubio y tiene una población de 1.651.437 habitantes (2005). Como toda capital (usualmente) Viena es la mayor ciudad, centro cultural y político de Austria.

Es una ciudad muy cultural y especialmente musical, es de hecho una de las ciudades más antiguas de Europa, con los primeros asentamientos que datan de 500 anos AC.

Arquitectónicamente Viena es una ciudad muy bonita. Imagínense una ciudad tan vieja, que vio tantos emperadores… en fin, caminar por las calles de Viena es como caminar por un gran museo al aire libre.

El clima ayuda mucho… desde que llegue casi todo el tiempo ha habido un clima excelente. Buen sol, temperaturas primaverales, un viento que refresca. A veces en las noches hace un poco de frío, pero nada comparado con las temperaturas en Estonia… pero aunque suene masoquista, debo admitir que extraño un poco la nieve y estar a -20°C :-)

Como otras de las grandes capitales europeas, Viena es una ciudad muy internacional. En las calles se ve gente de todos los colores y tamaños. Hay mucha diversidad, en gran parte por el turismo y también por ser sede de la OIEA (Organismo Internacional de Energía Atómica de la ONU).

Algo que me ha sorprendido mucho es que hay muchas personas que hablan Español o lo están aprendiendo. Como alguien me dijo, es un idioma muy “chic” aquí en Viena. Good for me :-) Algo interesante es que la música latina también es muy popular. Hay un par de discotecas latinas en la calle principal que siempre están muy, pero MUY llenas!

Limpieza, compras y transporte

A pesar de que hay tantos turistas aquí, Viena es una ciudad muy limpia, con una cultura ciudadana muy interesante. Hay mucho respeto por los bienes públicos.

Una de las cosas que he notado es que Viena es una ciudad relativamente costosa; una cerveza en un bar (0.5l) puede costarte a lo poco 3 Euros, por dar un ejemplo. El tiquete mensual para el transporte cuesta 45 euros (Ouch!), pero creo que da gusto pagar esa cantidad por el servicio que hay. En Viena hay metro, tranvías, buses (incluyendo líneas nocturnas). El transporte es extremamente puntual y rápido, del lugar donde vivo a mi oficina solo me toma 20 minutos, de los cuales son 10 caminando :-)

Pero Austria, al igual que Alemania y otros países tiene algo interesante respecto a la cultura de compras: las tiendas y supermercados cierran temprano todos los días (entre 6 y 7 pm), los sábados a las 4 ya todo esta cerrado; y los domingos no encuentras nada abierto (solo un par de pequeños supermercados cerca de estaciones de trenes... que por obvias razones siempre están llenísimos!)

Esto tiene sus pros y sus contras, pues es fácil evitar la tentación de comprar cosas ya que las tiendas están cerradas cuando uno tiene tiempo libre y así se puede ahorrar unos buenos euros. Lo malo es que si un domingo te levantas y te das cuenta de que no tienes nada que comer en el refrigerador... ooops!

A random comment: si quieres comprar un litro de yogurt, olvídalo… no venden en cantidades tan “grandes” :-(

Ok, creo que esto es todo por ahora… luego seguiré escribiendo un poco más de mi vida aquí, mi trabajo, el lugar donde vivo y de algunas cosas que he hecho aca.

Cerrando los últimos capítulos / Closing the last chapters

Hace tres días fue mi último día de trabajo en Elcoteq. A partir de ese momento en que dejé la fábrica puedo empezar a contar los días que me quedan en Estonia. Es hora de cerrar todos los capítulos de mi vida aquí para inciar uno nuevo en Viena.

Fue intersante dejar Elcoteq después de un año y cinco meses de trabajar allí. Pudé sentir el aprecio de mis colegas, entre todos me hicieron un regalo para que los recuerde: una bufanda y unos guantes con los colores nacionales, azul, negro y blanco (ver la foto). Se que con muchos de ellos no volveré a tener contacto, pero de seguro algunas amistades perdurarán.

No solo fue rico recibir mensajes de gratitud de mis colegas, sino también de mis proveedores. Con varios de ellos hubo una relacion laboral bien agradable, Niamh, Irina, Marina, Peter... de seguro que seguiremos en contacto aun que ya no trabajemos juntos.

Trabajar en Elcoteq fue bien interesante por múltiples razones: Elcoteq es una empresa muy (pero MUY) grande, tiene muchos procesos bien estructurados de los cuales se puede aprender mucho. Para los que no saben, en Elcoteq fabricamos (fabrican) aparatos electrónicos de telecomunicación, lease teléfonos móbiles, consolas, antenas, etc. En Tallinn hay 2 fabricas, la primera hace productos para Nokia; y la segunda –donde yo trabajaba- hace productos para Ericsson. Buenos clientes, ¿no? En Tallinn en total trabajan mas de cuatro mil personas!

Otra de las razones por la cual la experiencia en Elcoteq fue muy interesante es que la empresa refleja mucho la forma de ser de la sociedad de Estonia. En Estonia no solo viven Estonios (Estonianos?), también hay muchos Rusos, o mejor dicho Rusos nacidos en Estonia. En general estos dos grupos étnicos no se mezclan, los Estonios andan por un lado y los Rusos por otro; obviamente estoy generalizando. Pero la forma como la sociedad de Estonia se comporta es motivo para un posting que vendrá más adelante..

En Elcoteq son mas los rusos que los Estonios, y como pasa en la sociedad, estos dos grupos no se mezclan. En el restaurante se puede ver que los Estonios se sientan en grupos de dos o tres, mientras que los rusos se sientan en grupos grandes, hacen bromas y se rien bastante. Es interesante ver que los dos grupos étnicos son tan diferentes siendo nacidos y educados en el mismo país.

En fin, así es Elcoteq, un micromundo lleno de retos, amistades, tecnología y cosas por aprender.

Three days ago was my last working day at Elcoteq. Starting from the moment I left the factory I could start counting the days I have left in Estonia. Is time to close all the chapters of my life here to start a new one in Vienna.

It was interesting to leave Elcoteq after a year and 5 months working there. I could really feel the affection of my colleagues, which gave me as a good bye present a scarf and gloves with the national colors of Estonia: blue, black and white (see the picture). I know with many of them I will probably not talk again, but several friendships will last for sure.

But it was nice not only to receive messages from my workmates, but also from my suppliers. With many of them there was a very nice relationship, Niamh, Irina, Marina, Peter... for sure we will keep in contact.

Working at Elcoteq was very interesting for several reasons: Elcoteq is a company very (I mean VERY) big, it has many structured processes to learn from. For those who don’t know, in Elcoteq they produce electronic communication devices, meaning mobile phones, consoles, antennas, etc. In Tallinn there are about four thousand people working!

Other reason for making this time at Elcoteq so interesting is that the company reflects a lot the Estonian society. In Estonia there are not only Estonians, there are also Russian-Estonians, or Russians born in Estonia. In general these two groups don’t get along very well. Estonians are in one side and Russians in another, but I’m generalizing :-). But the way how Estonian society behaves is a topic for another posting.

In Elcoteq there are more Russians than Estonians, and as in the society, these two groups don’t get mixed. At the canteen you can see the Estonians in groups of two or three, while the Russian people sit in bigger groups, make jokes and laugh a lot. It is so interesting to see differently when they are born and raised in the same country.

Anyway, this is Elcoteq, a micro-world full of challenges, friends, technology and thousand things to learn.

A Postcard for World Peace / Una Postal por la Paz Mundial

Last thursday I had a dream... I saw a blog for posting postcards with peace messages sent by people from all over the world.

It was funny that first I woke up in the middle of the night with the idea of the blog and then I went to sleep. So then the "second half" of the dream came, and I saw the whole concept of the blog.

The idea is that people will send us (me) a postcard from their country/city (or any postcard) writing in the backside a message of peace to the World. All the postcards will be uploaded in the blog, and there will be a record of how many postcards per country we (I) receive (including a map showing the coverage).

As that morning I woke up so exited about the idea, I already created the blog:

El jueves pasado soñé algo… vi un blog con postales con mensajes pidiendo paz mundial, postales enviadas por personas de todo el mundo.

Lo chistoso es que primero vi esta parte del sueño y me desperté con la idea en la cabeza y me fui a dormir nuevamente. Entonces vino la segunda parte del sueño, en la cual vi todo el concepto del blog.

La idea es que la gente envíe postales de su ciudad o país (o cualquier otra postal) escribiendo mensajes paz para el mundo. Todas las postales serán escaneadas y publicadas en el blog, habrá un conteo de cuantas postales llegan por cada país y también habrá un mapa del mundo marcando todos los paices de los que hemos (he) recibido postales.

Como la mañana siguiente me desperte tan contento con la idea del blog, decidí crearlo de una! Y esta es la dirección:

(I Believe In) Little Things

Couple of days ago a dear friend of mine made me a present. It was a link to a very beautiful song, a Sesame Street song to be more precise. Its name is (I believe in) Little things, sung by Elmo (who doesn't like Elmo??? :-) and Tony Bennett.

I have totally forgotten about Sesame Street for long, long time; i just thought that many of their (children) songs have very beautiful meanings that we (grown up people) should think about once in a while. Getting to this particular one made me think about its meaning... those little things that make our life brighter, make us smile, or simply put a smile in our faces

Graduación / Graduation

Yes! I made it! I have graduated from my master! Now I’m a smart guy with a Master degree!
Yesterday 21st of December was the ceremony, it was nice and simple (and all in Estonian)

People are already asking me if I’m starting a PhD, but I don’t think that’s an option now… maybe a second master after a year or so.

Si! Lo logré! Me gradué de mi maestría! Ahora soy un hombre inteligente con un título de Magister, jajaja :-)
Ayer 21 de Diciembre fue la ceremonia de graduación, fue sencilla pero agradable (y solo en Estonio!)

Hay gente que ya me está preguntando si voy a hace un doctorado, pero eso no está en mis planes por ahora. Tal vez otra maestría dentro de un año, pero ya veremos.

Recordando el 2006

Este año se acerca a un final feliz. El 2006 estuvo lleno de momentos de alegría y razones para celebrar.

Fue un año con nuevas amistades y para fortalecer otras antiguas. Fue un año de viajes: al Reino Unido, Hungria, España, un vaije a casa; donde pase 3 maravillosas semanas com mi familia y amigos, mostrándole mi país a algunos amigos de Estonia. Tambien hubo viajes a la exotica Rusia y a la hermosa Austria.

Este año tambien fue de trabajo duro. Durante mi tiempo en Elcoteq he aprendido mucha cosas, de veras me gusta trabajar en una empresa tan profesional como esta. Este año tambien fue de trabajo académico: si! Me graduo de mi Maestria en Administración Ambiental! :)

El año inició con una super fiesta en Aruküla, un pequeño pueblo cerca a Tallin, con mis buenos amigos Gabriel y Gert, y unos amigos de este. Fuegos pirotécnicos, bebidas, amigos, la mama de Gert, nieeeeeeve! Fue un invierno muy bonito.

Luego vino un corto viaje a Glasgow y a Londres para facilitar una conferencia de Liderazgo de AIESEC. Poco tiempo despues fui de vacaciones a Hungrya a visitar a mi “hermana perdida en Europa” Anett y a su familia.

Pronto el invierno había terminado y la primavera llegó… se asomaron los primeros vientos de cambio para mi. Planear mi viaje a Colombia fue delicioso, estar allá fue maravilloso, ver las caras de felicidad de Maris, Triinu y Rauno al decubrir las maravillas de Colombia es algo que no olvidaré.De vuelta a “casa” pase unos días en España que hicieron que me enamorara de ese país. Madrid y Barcelona son ciudades que me encantan.

Cuando por fin regresé a Estonia me mudé a un nuevo apartamento. Fue un cambio pequeño en mi vida, pero me dio la oportunidad de descubrir una cara de Tallin que no conocía. El barrio donde vivo ahora es uno de los barrios “rusos”, construidos durante la ocupacion soviética. De hecho, la mayoria de las personas que viven en este barrio, Lasnamäe, tienen al Ruso como so idioma materno.

Luego llegó mi cumpleaños (el 20 de Agosoto para los que no recuerdan :-) Este año la celebración fue una de las mejores que he tenido en mucho tiempo… pasamos todo el dia caminando en Nelijärve, una zona de bosques de pinos y lagos de aguas heladas, con varios de mis mejores amigos aca. Hay recuerdos llenos de sonrisas, árboles, trenes, sol… e incluso algo de lluvia al regresar a casa.

Luego con el otoño llegó una oportunidad de oro: visitar la exótica Ufá, unca ciudad no muy lejos de los Montes Urales, en medio de Rusia. Fui invitado a ser el Chair de una conferencia regional de AIESEC. La gente: Excelente! Muchas aventuras al viajr por 42 horas en tren desde Tallin hasta Ufá. Descubrir Moscú y sus famosos monumentos… uff! Cuantas memorias!

Durante este años tambien hubo momentos de decir adiós también: a Nico, que regreso a su hogar en Francia; Andrew, de regreso en los Estados Unidos; Ott (Otto el Piloto :-), quien tambien fue a Francia a buscar una vida mejor. Adiós a mi familia y amigos en Colombia… los extraño mucho!

Ya estamos a finales de Diciembre; un mes que le ha brindado los mayores cambios a mi futuro: mi graduacion de mi maestria y la decision de irme de Estonia despues de 3 años y medio; un tiempo largo, pero feliz. Es increible que en un mes debo decir adiós a este país que se ha convertido en mi hogar. Siempre tendré a Estonia en mi mente y corazón! A mis mejores amigos aca: Gert, Jane, Gabriel, Jaan, Helena, Ardi, Sven, Maris… los voy a extrañar muchísimo; pero estoy seguro de que pronto nos encontraremos en algún lugar de este planeta :-).

Del 8 al 12 de Diciembre fui a Austria. Fui a unas pruebas de ingreso a la empresa IBM. El lunes 11, 7 candidatos (de Suecia, Eslovakia, República Checa, Croacia, Polonia, Albania y Colombia – yo), preseleccionados entre 50 hojas de vida, fuimos a entrevistas. Después de un largo día de pruebas grupales e individuales, y entrevistas, recibimos la respuesta: Monika (Checa), Lukas (Eslovaco) y yo fuimos seleccionados como los nuevos Junior Service Product Managers para el Global Technology Services team de IBM, en la casa matriz an Viena para la region CEMAAS (Europa central y oriental, Medio Oriente, África, Austria y Suiza)!! Una semana después David, de Suecia también fue seleccionado.

Así que, mis queridos amigos, pronto me mudaré a la capital de Austria para iniciar con una nueva vida llena de retos, aventuras y sueños que realizar. Trabajar para IBM será de seguro un reto grande, pero a la vez será una experiencia muy gratificante. Y Viena.. wow! Que ciudad tan bonita! Estoy seguro que seré feliz en esta nueva etapa de mi vida.

Gracias a todos por contribuir a lo que llamo un año totalmente exitoso! Ya los mantendré informados de com ova mi vida en el 2007. Espero verlos en Viena, o en otro lado en este mundo de Dios.

Remembering 2006

The year is close to a happy ending. 2006 was full of moments of joy; full of reasons to celebrate.

It was a year for making new friends, and for strengthening some old friendships. It was a year of traveling, to the UK, Hungary, Spain, traveling home and spending 3 wonderful weeks with my family and friends in Colombia, and showing my country to some of my Estonian friends. A year for traveling to far away Russia, and to the beautiful Austria.

The year 2006 was also a year of hard work. In Elcoteq I have learnt so many things; I like to work in such a professional company. But it was also time of hard academic work: yes, on the 21st of December I will graduate from my Master in Environmental Management!

This year started with a great party in Aruküla, a small town near Tallinn, with my very good friend Gert and his friends. Fireworks, drinks, friendship, Gert’s mother, snow! It was a beautiful winter.

Then came a short trip to Glasgow and London, facilitating an AIESEC conference there. Short time after that a wonderful holiday in Hungary visiting my dear friend Anett and her family.

Very soon winter was over and spring was here… winds of change started to blow. Planning my trip home was great, being there was amazing, seeing the faces of happiness of Maris, Triinu and Rauno while discovering Colombia was just unbelievable.

Some days in Spain made me fall in love with that country.

Then coming back to Estonia to live in a new flat. It was a small change in my life, but it really made me see a new face of Tallinn.

Then came my birthday, the happiest bday celebration I have had in long time… the whole day hiking in the forest and lakes of Nelijärve with some of my closest friends… memories full of smiles, trees, sun and even some refreshing rain.

Autumn came, and with it the chance to go to the exotic Ufa, a city near the Urals, in Russia. I went to chair an AIESEC conference. Amazing people, crazy adventures traveling 42 hours by train from Tallinn to Ufa, discovering Moscow… uff, so many memories!

During the year there were moments of saying good bye as well… to Nico, who went back to France; Andrew, back now in the US, Ott (Otto el Piloto J), who also went to France looking for a new life; Good bye to my family & friends in Colombia … miss you guys!

Now is middle of December; a month that has brought to me the biggest changes in long time: my graduation from my master and a final decision of saying good bye to 3 and a half long, but happy years in Estonia. It’s unbelievable that in less than a month I must say good bye to this country, to my home. Estonia will always be in my heart! My dearest friends here: Gert, Jane, Gabriel, Jaan, Helena, Ardi, Sven, Maris… I will really miss you. But I’m sure we will meet again soon… somewhere in this crazy planet.

From the 8 till the 12th of December I was in Austria. I went for an assessment center to join IBM. On Monday the 11th, 7 candidates (from Sweden, Slovakia, Czech Rep., Croatia, Poland, Switzerlan/Albania and Colombia-me) were there applying for a job. After a long day of individual and group tasks and presentations we got the feedback: Monika (Czech), Lukas (Slovakia) and I were selected as the new Junior Service Product Managers for the Global Technology Services of IBM, based at the regional headquarters in Vienna!! One week later, David (Sweden) was also selected as part of the team.

So my dear friends, soon I will be moving to the capital of Austria to start with a new life full of adventures and dreams to come true. Working at IBM will be very challenging, the job will be very hard for sure, but at the same time it will be extremely rewarding. And Vienna… oh, it is such a beautiful city! I’m sure I will be very happy there…

Thanks to all of you for contributing to what I call a very successful year! I will keep you posted on what is happening in my life during 2007. I hope to see you in Vienna, or somewhere else in this crazy world of God.

He aqui como se ve mi mundo actualmente. Paises visitados: 24.Tengo una meta personal: visitar un pais nuevo cada año; es decir como ahora tengo 27 años deberia haber visitado 27 paises... me faltan 3 para estar al dia :-)
